Raku Workshop July 26 | Rain Date July 27 | 1:00 - 4:00pm
Join us for an exciting and immersive Raku pottery workshop, where ancient technique meets spontaneous creativity. Rooted in Japanese tradition, Raku firing creates stunning, one-of-a-kind ceramic pieces through a dramatic process involving fire, smoke, and rapid cooling.
This hands-on experience will be facilitated by guest artist Nate Winter, whose dynamic approach to Raku brings both skill and excitement to the process. You can preview Nate’s work on social media and YouTube to get a taste of what’s in store.
The process is labor-intensive, but incredibly rewarding, offering a fun, hands-on experience in a relaxed and supportive setting.
Each participant will be able to fire up to 10 bisqued pieces.
Please bring your own bisque ware, and contact us in advance to submit photos of your work to ensure it’s suitable for Raku.
Workshop Options:
– Participant: $100 (includes firing up to 10 pieces)
– Spectator: $25 (observe and enjoy the process without firing pieces)
Please Note:
– This is a labor-intensive, fully participatory process. You’ll be glazing your own work, helping to load the kiln, and removing your hot pieces into reduction barrels—all with guidance and appropriate safety gear.
– Glazes, safety equipment, and all firing materials are included.
– Your pieces must be bisque-fired before the workshop.
– We’re happy to consult with you about which forms and clay bodies are best for Raku.
– Finished pieces will not be food-safe due to the nature of the Raku process.
– In case of rain, the backup date is Sunday, July 27.
