Lisa Zolandz: The Magic and Chemistry of In-glaze Lusters | May 15 - 16, 2027

$450.00

May 15 - 16, 2027 | 10:00am - 4:00pm

Explore the fascinating world of luster glazes in this hands-on workshop with studio potter and glaze chemist Lisa Zolandz. Participants will glaze cone 6 bisqueware with luster glazes and learn how reduction transforms these surfaces into iridescent finishes.

Lisa will share her extensive knowledge of glaze chemistry, luster formulation, and firing techniques, including the science behind developing lusters at mid- and high-fire temperatures. Through demonstrations, experimentation, and discussion, participants will gain insight into the materials and processes that make these distinctive surfaces possible.

This workshop is open to potters of all skill levels. A curiosity about glaze chemistry and a willingness to experiment are encouraged. Luster results can be unpredictable, and participants will explore how variations in materials, application, clay body, and firing conditions affect the finished work.
